Life Story
1827
The Caledonian Mercury covers a story on Duncan Allanach for assaulting a Justice of the Peace. He was found guilty of ‘mobbing and rioting’ and sentenced to one month in gaol.
Interestingly, the infamous gauger Malcolm Gillespie is being sentenced to death on the same day.
1828
The Aberdeen Journal of 16th January 1828 reports that Duncan was later charged with intimidating a witness of his earlier trial.
He was sentenced to three months in gaol.
1841
The 1841 census shows Duncan working as an Agricultural labourer and living in the outbuildings with another labourer (20 year old John Peterkin) of the Mill of Lesmore.
How the Mains of Lesmoir look today. Perhaps the outbuildings on the left are where Duncan stayed?
