Life Story
1740
From ‘A Treatise on Various Branches of the Criminal Law of Scotland’ by John Burnett (Advocate) in 1811, it appears that Elspet Tough is charged with murder by preventing Alexander Middleton from pulling her son William Allanach from James Thomson, who appears William has gone on to murder.
It seems that the case set a precedent in Scots Law as it is quoted in a Legal Treatise by an advocate in 1811.
I have asked the National Library of Scotland if they have any further records on this case.
