Death

Duncan died in 1874 when she was 79 years old. Note the age on the death certificate is incorrect and given there are so few Duncan Allanachs in Scottish records (his Father and brother only in the 19th century), the records is certain to be him.

Life Story

1827

The Caledonian Mercury covers a story on Duncan Allanach for assaulting a Justice of the Peace. He was found guilty of ‘mobbing and rioting’ and sentenced to one month in gaol.

Interestingly, the infamous gauger Malcolm Gillespie is being sentenced to death on the same day.

1828

The Aberdeen Journal of 16th January 1828 reports that Duncan was later charged with intimidating a witness of his earlier trial.

He was sentenced  to three months in gaol.

1841

The 1841 census shows Duncan working as an Agricultural labourer and living in the outbuildings with another labourer (20 year old John Peterkin) of the Mill of Lesmore.
