The family live at 19 Bolles Avenue according to the 1920 census. Robert’s father resides there with wife Abbie and sons (Francis) Gordon (13) and Robert (6). His occupation is stated as housebuilding.

Robert attends New London High School, Connecticut as part of the class of 1932.

 

1930

By 1930, the family have again moved, this time to 24 Guthrie Place, a beautiful home just metres from the beach, and on the same street as Meadow Court Mansion (now the Lighthouse Inn) which was originally built for steel magnate Charles S Guthrie. It was converted into an Inn and was allegedly a haunt of Bettie Davis and Joan Crawford in the 1940s.

The 1940 census shows father Francis continuing to reside at Guthrie Place with wife Abbie and son Robert.

The 1940 WW2 draft registration shows Robert to be working at the Electric Boat Company

1941

Robert Chapman Allanach marries Sylvia Durr 18th January 1941.

The 1950 census shows Robert living at 247 Plant Street, Groton, Connecticut with wife Sylvia (34) and daughter Linda (3). He is working as a self-employed building contractor.

A city directory for Groton in 1959 shows the family now residing at 414 Tyler Avenue. It appears that Robert J Allanach and wife Joan also reside at the same address.

Robert marries for a second time to Helen Cross in Stonington, Connecticut, USA, on 14 July 1967 aged 53 years old.

1969

Son John Richard Allanach attends Fitch High School in Groton

The Los Angeles Times reports on 2nd April 1971 on the wedding of daughter Linda to Gregory Hein.

1975

Son John Richard Allanach marries February 8th 1975 as reported the Bridgeport Post, Connecticut.

At some point before 2004, Robert moves to 352 Flanders Road Stonehaven

Robert Chapman dies 5th September 2004 at 352 Flanders Road in Stonington. He is buried at Mystic Cemetery, Connecticut.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1913, in New London, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Allanach.
Mr. Allanach was married to Helen D. Allanach on July 14, 1967, in Stonington. She died in 1989. His first wife, Sylvia Phyllis Durr, died in 1961.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Jane Allanach Clark of San Diego, Calif.; a son, John R. Allanach of Stonington; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Like his father, Mr. Allanach had a wonderful career building and remodeling homes in the area. He was a very loving and caring father and enjoyed life with his family and dear friends.

  1. In 1959, Robert J. Allanach and his wife Joan S. Allanach did not live on Flanders Road in Stonington. They may have been living on Pequot Trail, Stonington, a short distance from Flanders Road.
