1899
According to the naturalization petition, Francis arrives in America onboard the ship Canada into Boston on 14th April 1899.
1910
Francis resides at 31 Adelaide Street, New London, Connecticut with wife Abbie and son Francis Gordon (3). His occupation is possibly ‘rail setter’

1911
Francis petitions for US citizenship. Despite being born in Ireland, he states birthplace as Alford, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His occupation is foreman carpenter and he resides at 31 Adelaide Street, New London, Connecticut.
1917
Francis completes the military census and Draft registration as pat of the USA’s entry into the First World War. They reveal he was 5ft10 1/2 and weighed 160lb (11st 6lb) with hazel eyes and grey hair. His occupation is construction superintendent. He states he can manages teams and in an interestingly detail of how times are rapidly changing he confirms he can drive a car, but cannot ride a horse!
1920
Francis in the 1920 census has now moved to 19 Bolles Avenue, just a couple of streets away. He resides there with wife Abbie and sons (Francis) Gordon (13) and Robert (6). His occupation is stated as housebuilding.

The 1928 City Directory features the family :
1930
By 1930, the family have again moved, this time to 24 Guthrie Place, a beautiful home just metres from the beach, and on the same street as Meadow Court Mansion (now the Lighthouse Inn) which was originally built for steel magnate Charles S Guthrie. It was converted into an Inn and was allegedly a haunt of Bettie Davis and Joan Crawford in the 1940s.
1940
The 1940 census shows Francis continuing to reside at Guthrie Place with wife Abbie and son Robert.
1941
Francis is a trustee of the Chapman Technical High School in New London, Connecticut.
1942
The draft for WW2 sees Francis having to register. He confirms his business address as 16 Cottage Street

1951
A tribute is paid to Francis in the year book of Chapman Technical High School in New London, Connecticut.
1964
Wife Abbie dies on 22nd December 1964.
1965
