Hello Gary, I came upon your website while doing ongoing research on Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, aka The Wolf of Badenoch. In 2023, I purchased the Y-111 Y-DNA from Family Tree DNA. Upon getting the results, I joined the Stewart Project and was shortly notified by the Administrator of that I had the markers for descent from Robert II, the first Stewart King of Scotland and I should join that project. Which I did. Then I was contacted by multiple Administrators of the Alexander Stewart , Wolf of Badenoch project saying that I likely was a “Wolf” descendant and the project paid for my upgrade to the Big Y-700 analysis which confirmed that I was among the haplotypes believed to be descended from Alexander. And there are members of our group with other surnames include Laing, Robertson, Pearce, Teer, Murray, Monteith, Sands, Campbell, Smith, Cooper, Kerr, and Bryson, to name a few. It’s what we call a NPE, Not Parent Expected often hundreds of years ago. Bottom line, I recommend you get the family tree, Y-DNA at least at the Y-111 level. Your matches from that will tell you if your male line descends from a Stewart. If you match some Stewarts/Stuarts etc., you should be able to join the Stewart project and then they can tell you the likely branch. Hope this is helpful. Good luck, best wishes, and Slàinte Mhath.
