Francis is born in Craigengower, Strathdon to parents John and Jean on 5th September 1846 and baptised the 15th September.
Craigengour was another tricky place to locate. The old OS descriptions from the 1860s list several variants, all roughly meaning ‘rocks of the goat(s)’.

Francis is married to Elizabeth Williams on the 13th June 1868. He gives his address as Castle Newe where he works as a farm servant
1871
Francis resides in Leochel-Cushnie with wife Elizabeth and daughters Jane (2) and Mary (newborn 2 months).
The address stated is Upper Shinmore, Leochel Cushnie. This is likely to be Upper Minmore.
1901
Francis is now resident in Ireland where he works as a carpenter. He resides at 27 Ballinure, Blackrock, Cork with wife Elizabeth, son William (20, daughter Elizabeth (15) and son James Alexander (9)
1907
Francis arrives in Boston Massachusetts from Queenstown Ireland aboard the Saxonia along with wife Elizabeth, daughter Elizabeth (21) and son James (16). He states that he is a carpenter, that his first destination is Marion, and that he paid for his own ticket. This is also his first time in the United States. He is described as 5ft9, fair complexion with grey eyes and hair. Under marks of identification, ‘senility’ is written.

Francis resides in Easton Massachusetts wife wife Elizabeth and daughter Isabella (36). His occupation is stated as ‘truck farmer'(a farmer on a small farm who grows fruit and vegetables for selling to the public).

1913
Francis is remembered in the Boston Globe on 12th November 1913 (p11) by his wife Elizabeth, sons and daughters after passing on the 10th November 1913.
Francis is buried with wife Elizabeth and daughter Jane at the Furnace Village Cemetery, Easton, Massachusetts.
