1904

Edith Elizabeth Allanach is born on September 16th 1904 in Marion, Massachusetts. Note the father’s place of birth is stated as unknown but this could be possibly done to hide the fact that father John was born in Ireland (he often states Scotland instead in other records).

 

1910

The 1910 census shows father John living in Marion Massachusetts with wife Carrie and daughters Edith (5) and newborn Ada, as well as a boarder named Bessie Witherwax (26), a servant. He is  working as a florist

1920

The 1920 census shows father John still working as a ‘greenhouse florist’ and continuing to live on Front Street Marion with wife Caroline and daughters Edith (15) and Ada (11).

The 1930 census shows father John still working as a ‘nursery florist’ and continuing to live on Front Street Marion with wife Caroline and daughters Edith (25) and Ada (21).

Edith takes a trip to Bermuda with sister Ada (21) onboard the SS American Legion arriving back in Hoboken, New York on March 19th 1930.

1931

Edith takes a cruise with sister Ada around the West Indies aboard the SS Empress of Australia, sailing from New York December 2nd 1931 and arriving in Puerto Rico December 6th 1931.

 

1934

Edith seems to have got a taste now for cruising! From the Boston Globe March 3rd 1934.

1940

The 1940 census shows father John still working as a florist and continuing to live on Front Street Marion with wife Caroline and daughters Edith (35) and Ada (30).

1950

The 1950 census shows father John now listed as a ‘proprietor’’ and continuing to live on Front Street Marion with wife Caroline and daughter Edith (45).

1960

John (75)  travels with daughter Edith (64) for perhaps a last trip to the UK, staying at 238 Beulah Hill in Norwood, South London (house shown as of today). He arrives on 23rd May 1960 from New York into Southampton on board Cunard’s illustrious ship RMS Queen Mary.

1974

Edith dies 19 May 1974 and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Marion, Massachusetts alongside father John and Mother Caroline.
